WR Sleepers: August 15th Edition

We are right around the corner from those moments in our fantasy drafts the make us wish we had a crystal ball.  Sitting there in the 9th round wondering if you're going to break down and take Denver's defense because there are no names jumping out at you.  I will continue to put together a list of some of these names that may help when that time comes.  I refuse to let any of my readers settle for a defense when there is prime value staring you in the face.

As I mentioned in the running back edition, the ADP (average draft position) of these players are changing constantly and with it so is the title of 'sleepers.'  Taking full advantage of value is directly correlated to where you are drafting a player.  This list below will highlight a few wide receivers that I feel will pay dividends if drafted in the vicinity of where they are being taken today.

Wide Receiver
2016 ADP
Positional Rank
Mike Evans 2.07 11th WR
Sammy Watkins 3.06 18th WR
Donte Moncrief 4.10 25th WR
Michael Floyd 5.04 27th WR
Markus Wheaton 9.06 43rd WR
Kamar Aiken 10.04 48th WR
Mohamed Sanu 11.08 53rd WR
Devin Funchess 12.09 57th WR
Bruce Ellington 13.11 60th WR

  • Mike Evans - My Evans love story article from June will tell you all you need to know.  But the target share expected in that offense is similar to the high end WR1 guys we are all accustomed too.
  • Sammy Watkins - Week 9-17 pace from Watkins was: 138 targets - 87 rec - 1,600 yds - 12 TD
  • Donte Moncrief - 16-game pace in the 7 games played with Luck last year: 123 targets - 73 rec - 802 yds - 11 TD
  • Markus Wheaton - Wheaton played the role of WR3 in the Pittsburgh offense down the stretch with Antonio Brown and Martavis Bryant taking most all of the defensive coverage.  He excelled at it I might add.  Looking at 2016 it is shaping up for Brown and Sammie Coates to play that 1-2 role and Wheaton will find himself in a similar position as hid did last year, but with another year of chemistry with Big Ben.
  • Kamar Aiken - Aiken quietly turned in a fantastic rookie performance hauling in 75 passes for almost 1,000 yards and 5 touchdowns.  In the three games he played with Flacco with Steve Smith injured, Aiken had 18 catches on 28 targets.  Chemistry was made.  Look for it in 2016.
  • Devin Funchess - The rumor mill has been filling up with talks about Funchess outperforming Benjamin in this Carolina passing game in 2016.  Whereas I don't believe this to be the case, I do think the ex-Michigan Wolverine is a steal in the 12th round.  Big body redzone threat starting opposite Benjamin is going to get a lot of looks inside the 20-yard line.  If Ted Ginn can weasel his way into 10 touchdowns last year I think Funchess can find a way.
